EXPANDING HORIZONS

The Sydney Region Expanding Horizons project began in 2009 with a Sydney Opera House Gala concert involving performers from both China and Sydney Region schools. In 2010 the project continued with over 200 Performing Arts students touring to Southern China performing & participating in cultural exchange. 2011 saw our music, dance and drama students and their conductors, choreographers and directors work alongside their Chinese counterparts to create unique performances blending our two cultures again at the Sydney Opera House.

In 2012 students from YEARS 5 -12 across a broad range of educational areas joined a 10 day tour of China. Visiting Shanghai, Yangzhou, Nanjing and Chengdu each tour group were given a unique opportunity to not only see both the historical and natural sites of Southern China but also to visit schools, meet with Chinese students and participate in performances, master classes and activities related to their areas of expertise.

A highlight of the Tour for everyone was the opportunity to visit the world renowned Panda breeding and research Centre in Chengdu.
