Sydney Region Arts - Music

Sydney Region music programs aim to support music and music performance in schools, providing opportunities for individual and group performances in high profile, quality venues. Events target individuals, small groups and large ensembles both vocally and instrumentally.

The Following Music Events are offered in the Sydney Region

Sydney Region Orchestra
They Sydney Region Orchestra, now in it’s fourth year, is a project aimed at instrumentalists from the region from Years 5-8. The orchestra incorporates a two day camp, follow up rehearsals and a performance at the Sydney Region Festival at the Opera House. The 70 piece orchestra provides a full symphonic experience for students and is a wonderful way to experience great music, build ensemble skills and meet other musicians.

Sydney Region Band
The Sydney Region Band is a 90 piece ensemble that provides opportunities for pupils to develop their skills in band performance and musicianship. The band comprising of students from Years 5-7, is an ideal way for student musician to bridge the gap between Primary and Secondary School Band.

Sydney Region Music Festival
The Sydney Region Music Festival is an event that encompasses students from Kindergarten to Year 12. It performs at the Sydney Opera House and involves a collection of over 70 schools within the massed Primary Choir and individual items from both Primary and High schools.

The Primary Massed Choir is selected through a video/DVD audition process done early in Term 1. From this audition, 21 Primary Schools are selected to make up the 500 students in the choir. Teachers are then asked to attend an afternoon inservice where they become familar with the music before returning to their schools to teach their choirs.

In Term 2 we have auditions for individual ensemble items through video/DVD to make up the collection of items to be performed during the evening.

This event cullminates in a performance in the Concert Hall of the Opera House on Sunday 27 September and is a wonderful experience of all students involved.

Sydney Region Choir
The Sydney Region Choir is a new project in its inaugural year. The program provides opportunities for singers from Years 5 – 12 to develop and enhance their choral skills and to perform at regional and state events as a regional representative. Singers are selected through audition, rehearse weekly with tuition provided by experienced conductors and participate in workshops with composers and singers from across the region.
